Use this page for questions about the site: a calculator result that looks wrong, a source you think we have misread, a broken link, or a business enquiry. One person reads this mailbox, and corrections get looked at first.
Looking for a roofing quote? This email address does not reach any contractors, and the site does not pass requests on to contractors either. For a price you can plan around, size your roof with the roof pitch calculator and the roofing square calculator, then put that square count into the roof replacement cost calculator. For an actual quote, get three written estimates from local contractors.
Email us
We read everything, but this is a small site and replies can take a few days. If it is about a calculator, include the page, the numbers you entered and the result you got.
What helps us fix things quickly
- Calculator errors: the page, the inputs you typed and the output you expected.
- Source questions: the figure you are asking about and the page it appears on. The methodology page lists every source we use.
- Corrections: a link to the public data that contradicts ours. We update figures when a better public source exists.
- Broken links and typos: the page address and roughly where on the page it is. These are quick to fix and always worth reporting.
What we can and cannot help with
This is a research site, not a roofing business. That line decides most of what lands in the mailbox.
| We can | We cannot |
|---|---|
| Explain where a figure came from and how it was built | Quote or price your specific roof |
| Correct a number that does not match its source | Inspect a roof, or judge one from photographs |
| Point you to the calculator or guide that fits your question | Recommend, vet or introduce a contractor |
| Say which public source a range is drawn from | Advise on your insurance claim, warranty claim or contract |
Nobody here installs, inspects or repairs roofs, which is stated plainly on the about page. For the questions in that right-hand column, the guides are the better answer: signs you need a new roof, what homeowners insurance covers, and what a shingle warranty covers.
Using figures from this site
You are welcome to quote a figure from any page, in an article, a report or a class, as long as you link to the page it came from so readers can see the source and the arithmetic behind it. If you need to know how a specific range was built before you cite it, write and ask.
What happens to your email
Emails to this address are used to reply to you and to fix what you report, nothing else. There is no mailing list, and we do not pass your address on. The privacy policy sets out what the site collects, which is Google Analytics usage data and the emails you choose to send. The calculators work everything out in your own browser: the measurements you type are never sent to us or stored, and Analytics records only that a calculator on a page was used, not what you entered.
